“My desire, my determination and my ambition are always different, what keeps me in my life is painting, without that I would be lost.” S. MILDO
Focus on this 28-year-old Marseille artist, on the eve of his solo exhibition on Tuesday May 25 in Marseille. Born in the 14th arrondissement, he was immersed from his earliest childhood in Marseille culture, a city he describes as “vigorous, united and in full emersion”. Coming from graffiti, in 2014 he decided to move from wall to canvas, from exhibition to introspection, from the ephemeral to the eternal. Despite this change of medium, he retains its movement, energy and composition, which himself qualifies his art as “post-graffiti abstraction”, alive and free. Visceral and human.
Animated by what he calls “variations of the soul within the human body”, his brush betrays the deep feelings of a “selfish” painter imposing a frame on his own catharsis.
His works are a mixture of colors, shapes and appearance. And it is in this universe in its own right that he navigates through the blue of his paintings. This color soothes and reassures him, but it is also what marks his identity. Made of sky, sea, in a word of its city: Marseille.
The geometric shapes of his paintings come in turn to oppose cadence and decadence, reality and dizziness, according to the rhythms that dot his creative process.
In 2020, he takes a step forward and begins developing a first solo show. With the confidence and support of its gallery owner, S.Mildo aims to “awaken the sensitivity of people” and unreservedly illustrate the density of its production. To lay one more stone on an already solid building, and therefore think about what your painting will be tomorrow …
